Sam Jones is set to hang up his boots after failing to recover from an horrendous injury he suffered on England duty.
The flanker shattered a leg and ankle during a judo drill in the build up to the 2016 Autumn International campaign when he was tipped to make his debut.
He was grappling with Saracens lock Maro Itoje when he was injured and it is understood he has been advised to call it a day.
The 26-year-old who rose through the Wasps ranks was expected to be out of action for only five months but the injury turned out to be much worse than first thought.
Jones was given the news when he visited a specialist close to two weeks ago.
Making his debut in 2010 as a 19-year-old, Jones has made 73 appearances for his club and featured for the Barbarians against the British & Irish Lions in Hong Kong in 2013.
A Wasps spokesperson did not wish to comment when we contacted them to verify the story.
