Ospreys sack Steve Tandy after Champions Cup exit

Ospreys have signalled the end of Steve Tandy’s tenure at the Liberty Stadium by sacking the 38-year-old after six years.
The head coach exits the club with immediate effect following a 24-7 defeat away at Clermont Auvergne which saw Saracens beat them to a place in the Champions Cup quarter-finals.
“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly,” Ospreys managing director Andrew Millward said.
“Steve has been an outstanding servant… however, we’re aware that results have not been good enough this season and a change is necessary.”
Out at the Pools stage in Europe, Ospreys performance in the PRO14 confounded the outlook for Tandy as just four wins in 13 leave them second from bottom in Conference A.
But the club affirmed Tandy will always be welcomed back after guiding them to silverware success in 2012.
“Steve has been an integral part of everything we have achieved over the last six years – from winning the PRO12 in his first season in charge to helping develop a strong core of players from our academy.
“Steve will always remain a respected figure within the Ospreys family and will always be welcomed back to Liberty Stadium as a true friend of the region. We wish him every success for the future.
