The result may have been familiar, New England in another fall, but the approach hinted at sunnier days.
There was an emphasis on speed of delivery from the breakdown and an understanding that was missing in the autumn. The problem was an opponent who had a better stocked arsenal.
Scotland did not play into England’s strengths by looking to make ground around the fringes.
