The RFU’s review into England’s 2026 Six Nations nosedive was a whitewash that told the English rugby public, and the media, virtually nothing about the alarming decline in the playing standards of the team run by head coach Steve Borthwick.
It meant that the prediction last month in this column was borne out, with the RFU press release earlier this week, which was laughably billed as “detailed and robust”, nothing more than a farcical non-review of the mediocrity England displayed in the battering by Scotland, the record home defeat by Ireland, and a first-ever loss to Italy.
