Diamond happy as Falcons sign Japan back rower

NEWCASTLE have signed veteran Canon Eagles back rower Amanaki Mafi on a one-year deal. The 35-year-old Japan international previously had a short stint in the Premiership with Bath in 2016.
“Amanaki is a big ball carrier with great footwork and an offloading game, and someone who will get our fans off their seats,” director of rugby Steve Diamond said.
“He makes impacts in both attack and defence, he will bring others into the game and I see this as a really significant signing for us.”
