Italy show strength of their youth set-ups

THERE is a common misconception that Italy rugby consists only of Benetton and Zebre, understandable given they are the only fully professional clubs operating at the elite level in Europe.
It’s worth noting therefore that 26 of the 31 Italy U18 squad who travelled to Millfield School in Street last week to record an outstanding 27-17 win over England U18 are currently playing for clubs other than the big two. They are either learning their rugby at one of the 12 semi-professional Super 12 clubs – Italy’s second tier – or are still at a junior club.
