Australia claim the first Olympic Sevens gold as reward for years of excellence

AUSTRALIA might have struggled to make an impact at the Women’s World Cup over the years but – raiding other sports like netball, hockey and basketball for talent – they always demonstrated much more liking for Sevens and in 2016 became the first Olympic champions in Women’s Sevens.
The Aussies, outstanding throughout the tournament, beat their old rival New Zealand 24-17 to take the gold at Rio’s Deodoro Stadium.
