England kicked out of World Cup by Australia

England became the first host nation to fail to qualify for the knock-out stages of a World Cup after a 33-13 defeat to at Twickenham.
Following their loss to Wales the week before, Stuart Lancaster’s men had to beat the Wallabies but their hopes were thread to pieces by an outstanding Bernard Foley who scored two first-half tries to finish the game with a personal tally of 28 points.
Foley anf Owen Farrell exchanged early penalties but two brilliant line breaks from the Waratahs fly-half saw him cross twice for a 17-3 lead at the break.
He extended that lead with a penalty early in the second half but finally rallied and they claw their way back through a try from Anthony Watson.
Farrell converted and kicked a penalty just after the hour and England were back within seven points.
But as they failed to capitalise on more possession, tension rose and Farrell lost his cool tackling Matt Giteau without the ball using no arms in the tackle.
He was shown a yellow card for his action and Foley slotted the resulting penalty to definitely bury England’s hopes.
Another one and a late try from Giteau only rubbed more salt in England’s wounds as the humiliation became Australia’s biggest win at HQ in history.
