OLD Otliensians director of rugby Pete Tempest admits promotion was ‘bittersweet’ after sealing their return to level 7 without kicking a ball.
Tempest’s side secured a five-point walkover victory against Halifax Vandals to clinch the Yorkshire 2 title as their opponents failed to fulfil the fixture, sparking celebrations despite an anti-climactic finish.
The club still marked the occasion with a packed sponsors’ day and it sealed a remarkable turnaround for a team that, not long ago, was battling simply to survive.
