Doris praises his big-match players

captain Caelan Doris was proud his side could produce another huge performance to clinch their fourth Triple Crown in five years.

“We asked for a big performance from some of our big-match players and they stood up, the likes of Tadhg Beirne some of the turnovers he got were crucial,” Doris said. “We saw what their attack was capable of last week and again today it came in waves but our defence stood up and big moments helped keep them out.

“There were some calm heads in there which was helped by the fact we had scoreboard pressure from a fast start which we aimed for as well, it felt composed out there and it was good. There’s unbelievable experience built by this group and showed the competition in the squad, long it continue.”

captain Sione Tuipulotu did not hide his disappointment. “I’m gutted.” he said. “We set our sights on coming here and getting a result, but Ireland were too good. Collisions are where it was won and lost. I’m proud of the way we stuck in it, but we can’t make the errors we did. I think we’ve made progression, but we want to be where these guys are with a trophy. We were physically prepared, it’s on us as players.”

Ireland winger Robert Baloucoune, who has been named the ‘ rising star, said: “It’s something I didn’t think would happen. At 28 I’m a bit old to be getting named a rising star. You have to put your best foot forward and take your opportunity.”
