Tom Wright’s career
Fearless in spirit, Wright marries blistering pace with a finisher’s touch. His rugby journey didn’t begin in union but in league, playing for teams like Clovelly Crocodiles and La Perouse Panthers.
In 2018, the Australian international made his NRL debut with the Manly Sea Eagles against the Brisbane Broncos.
Over the years, we have seen great athletes switch between the codes. Wright is one of those outstanding players. He joined the ACT Brumbies, making his debut for the club in 2019.
Now with over 90 Super Rugby caps to his name, he has carved a name through relentless work in the second and third phases.
With Corey Toole, he formed a partnership that could open any defence. Wright makes a massive impact on the club, but he also makes a massive impact at international level.
International
November 2020 marked Wright’s arrival in the Australia set-up. Wallaby 939 was thrown into the deep end, taking on New Zealand.
That day, Wright crossed the whitewash, contributing to a 24–22 win. In 2024, the fullback played 12 Tests as the starting 15.
Whenever he’s on the pitch, it’s clear how important he is. The Wallabies secured two huge wins over Wales and England, where Wright put in two massive shifts.
In the biggest games, the Brumbies’ stalwart steps up. Under the bright lights of the MCG on 26 July 2025, he scored Australia’s third try of the second Test.
Wright was given the opportunity to score and finished it with precision.
The years ahead will be important for Australian rugby, and Wright’s contract extension shows that he is committed to the cause. Wright will be looking to etch his name into Australian rugby history.
One of the best in the world
There is so much quality at fullback across the rugby world. Players such as Will Jordan, Aphelele Fassi, and Hugo Keenan are world-class operators.
Wright is among the best in the world right now. A genuine presence on the international stage, he has shown that no matter the occasion or the opponent, Wright delivers.
Blending speed, power, and footwork with a ruthless finishing touch, he adds a spark of creativity every time he joins the attack. It would be massive for Australia to get another win over the Springboks in South Africa.
As previously mentioned, Wright will have to be at his best to allow Australia to repeat the feat. You can always count on the Wallaby to produce.
A fearless talent who can change a game instantly, Wright’s journey is far from complete. The future promises something extraordinary.
