Referees to use orange option for technical reds

FRENCH rugby’s disdain for the 20-minute red card is undisguised. The FFR, LNR and players’ union Provale have all raged against the spectacle-over-welfare machine ever since it was first mentioned as a possible trial.
The 20-minute red card allows a team to replace a player who has been sent off for a technical foul with another player after a 20-minute period with 14 on the pitch. Referees retain the option of distributing definitive red cards for deliberate and dangerous foul play – a sort of pale red and deep red option.
