At 35, Ben Youngs performed the rare feat of spending marginally more than half his life navigating a safe way through the jungle of pro rugby albeit as a Leicester Tiger.
He achieved the greater distinction of doing so without ever changing clubs, staying put at Welford Road boy and man for 18 years.
After the best part of 500 matches for Leicester, England and the Lions, he found time for a parting shot in honour of battered old virtue of club loyalty: “To be able to finish as a one-club player will be one of my greatest achievements.’’
