Rugby’s Social Media Moments of the Week: WRU rocks the Rugby World

Rugby’s Social

Rugby social media has been on top form this week, with plenty of fan debates surrounding numerous issues in the sport.

The WRU has been hugely criticised online following a statement that has rocked Welsh rugby, with fans expressing a multitude of opinions regarding the issue.

Ardie Savea has been brought back into to GOAT debates, after winning the Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Season award for Moana Pasifika.

A lot has happened in the rugby world, and here are some of the best social media moments from the sport.

Danny Care’s last game at The Stoop

Danny Care announced his retirement last week, meaning that ‘ game against would be his last at The Stoop.

Despite being on the bench, the legendary scrum-half was able to wear his number nine jersey, in a classy touch that gave a great ending to an illustrious career.

He was given a standing ovation when he came on in the 64th minute, and fans expressed plenty of emotion both in the stands and on social media.

People shared their favourite Care moments and remembered the good times, of which there were plenty.

Quins rewarded him with a win, although the bonus point would have been the icing on top of the cake.

Ardie Savea Masterclass

Savea has been rightly getting his plaudits this weekend, after winning the Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year, following a stellar campaign for Moana Pasifika.

The flanker put in an outstanding performance as they beat the Blues for the first time ever this weekend, putting them up to sixth and majorly boosting their hopes of playing in the finals.

There has been plenty of discourse as to where he ranks in the all-time greatest list, following a season and weekend in which he has carried Moana Pasifika on his back.

Plenty doubted his decision to join the franchise, but he has shown that he is a great player by managing to bring a lesser-fancied team up with him.

The All Black legend shows no signs of slowing down at age 31.

2026 Fixtures Confirmed

Although every team plays each other, so in many ways the fixture list is irrelevant, the buildup to the 2026 Six Nations has technically begun following the release of the fixture list.

Fans get to see the order in which they will play their games, with many speculating how it may affect the outcome of the competition.

The first game of the Championship is v , which is scheduled to be played on a Thursday.

This has caused debate with many believing that a Thursday game is not necessarily ideal with regards to attracting fans and creating a spectacle.

There is a long way to go and plenty of rugby to be played before 2026, but it is exciting regardless.

Marcus Smith Shows Talent

Marcus Smith has been on a one-man mission to prove that he is worthy of his British and Irish Lions call-up, putting in another great performance after his selection, which was heavily questioned.

He was at his best for Quins with his try, finding space where he had no right to, to weave through the Exeter defence and finish between the posts.

An absolute joke of a try, fans have started to change their tune on Smith, and he is seemingly back to being highly rated as one of the best in the country.

Welsh Rugby in Crisis

Welsh rugby has been rocked by the news that the union has decided to reduce the number of professional clubs in the country from four to three.

and turned down a PRA deal that they believed would have centralised the funding to Cardiff, and as a result, the WRU are intending to reduce the number of pro clubs.

The decision has been made to concentrate the talent and make clubs more competitive in the URC, which could, in turn, benefit the national team.

Fans have expressed their disappointment and are pretty much unanimous in their disagreement with the proposal, so there is a chance that the WRU may be forced to change their stance.
