IN the battle of the top two sides in pool B, Portugal came out on top with a dominant 34-6victory in Romania.
Raffaele Storti put the visitors ahead with a try but Alin Conache replied with a penalty. But Portugal led 12-3at half time as Luka Begic scored their second score.
Nicolas Martins touched down at the start of the second half with Romania only able to muster a second penalty through Conache.
Samuel Marques added a penalty for Portugal before Os Lobos rounded off a commanding performance with tries from Manuel Vareiro and Vasco Baptista, while fly-half Marques finished with nine points off the tee.
Netherlands beat the competition’s whipping boys Switzerland 73-0to secure their first win of the tournament. The Dutch scored tries through Oliva Sialau, Christopher Raymond (2), Spike Salman, Vikas Meijer, TC Campbell (2), Boris Hadinegoro (2), Mees van Oord, Bjorn Dolman, David Weersma and a penalty try to seal victory and third place in pool A.
Spain beat Switzerland 43-13 last Sunday thanks to tries from Lucas Santamaria, Tani Bay (2), Martiniano Cian, Manex Ariceta and Ekain Imaz, while Portgual thrashed Germany 56-14 courtesy of scores by Hugo Gomes Camacho (2), Lucas Martins (2), Diego Pinheiro Ruiz, Simao Broeiro Bento (2) and Francisco Pinto Magalhaes.
Today’s action sees Spain host Georgia in a top of the table decider in pool A, while a winless basement battle in pool B involves Belgium visiting Germany.
