Hull Ionians’ Michael Melhuish has made the miraculous transformation from inside centre to tighthead prop this season.
The 6ft 3ins, 19st 7lbs player filled in at number eight for the club’s second team last year and Ionians forwards coach, Lewis Thiede saw enough in his performances to give him the No.3 jersey this term.
Melhuish, 35, has been an ever-present for the East Yorkshire outfits’ front row and has enjoyed the positional change while admitting it comes with challenges.
