‘Incredible’ Farrell has Saracens motoring

Champions Saracens smashed Harlequins 52-7 in front of 61,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to move second in the table and stretch their winning run to seven matches against their London rivals.

Captain Owen Farrell led the way for Saracens on his 250th appearance for the club and his director of rugby Mark McCall said: “It was incredible. He played as good as I’ve seen him today and I think he’s going to be like that for the rest of the season, hopefully. He didn’t like all the attention but the players wanted to make it a special week.

“We weren’t expecting the scoreline or the performance to be quite at that level. Sometimes when you dominate a match it’s not always reflected on the scoreboard but that wasn’t the case today.

“This was all about the players because we only had two training sessions and people coming back from four places (after the Six Nations).”

Exeter climbed to third in the table with a bonus-point win over an improved Newcastle team that has now lost all 13 league games this season. Chiefs DoR Rob Baxter said: “We didn’t start well and were seven points down but we knuckled down and worked our way back into the game; we scored our tries and got the bonus point.”
