Caldy are preparing for their first-ever Championship campaign and new signing Will Sanderson says the squad cannot wait to get started.
Loose-head Sanderson has joined after an an impressive season at Welsh Premiership side RGC, where he made 25 appearances in two seasons and scored one try.
Sanderson, 22, said: “It’s a really good environment.
“All the boys are excited to see what they can do in the Championship. It’s going to be a tough year for us, but I think we’ll be okay.
“Our expectations are to compete with everyone. The aim is to try and make a marker for Caldy and see where we can compete in the league.”
Sanderson, who represented Wales U18s and U19s alongside the likes of Louis Rees-Zammit and Jac Morgan, enjoyed his time in North Wales but is ready for a new challenge and plans to make his mark in England.
He said: “My time at RGC was good but I just thought it was time for a change and with Caldy going into the Championship it meant it was a good time to join the club.
“I’m expecting the physicality to be harder and I’m expecting scrum time, mauls, and lineouts to be a step up.
“I want to do as well as I can and see if anything comes of it. I want to make my mark in the set piece and then the rest of my game will come with that. My aim is to go as far as I can in the sport and hopefully one day play in the Premiership.”
Stevenson is one of three signings director of rugby Gareth Davies has made alongside England Sevens fly-half Dan Bibby and centre Louis Beer from Cambridge.
“The new signings have all bedded in well. Most people who have been training with the club to see what it’s like have stayed and signed afterwards which comes as no surprise because it’s overall a great atmosphere at the club,” said Stevenson.
