THE Six Nations chief executive, Ben Morel, is not slow to pat himself on the back, over-hyping the last round of the 2022 tournament as “one of the most exciting Super Saturdays in history”.
Sure, France won a deserved but hardly odds-defying Grand Slam, and Italy finally secured a victory with a spectacular try after six years of uninterrupted losses, but the virtually identical fixture format announced this week for the 2023 Six Nations gives the tournament a sense of the stale rather than the supercharged.
