COURTNEY Lawes admitted he and his team-mates let France “off the hook” as England ended their disappointing Six Nations campaign with another courageous but eventually heart-breaking defeat.
Eddie Jones’ men went down fighting across the Channel but then had to watch Les Bleus celebrate a first title since 2010 and complete a Grand Slam at the Stade de France.
Captain Lawes was confident the visitors could, and should, have spoiled the Paris party but were not clinical enough having had so much pressure and possession in the second half of their 25-13 loss.
