Willie John blasts tour plans for Lions as ‘nonsense’

WILLIE John McBride has condemned the Lions’ decision to proceed with this summer’s Test series behind closed doors against the Springboks.
“It’s a nonsense, a total nonsense,’’ he said. “It should have been postponed. The concept of the Lions has been destroyed. It’s now purely about money.’’
McBride’s service to the Lions can never be equalled – five tours, 17 Tests, 70 matches. Yet that hasn’t stopped the veteran Ulsterman speaking out against what he sees as the destruction of the Lions.
