Dai turned back on rugby to be Wales’ star keeper

LONG before he began stopping shots for Swansea City, Everton, Wrexham and Wales, Dai Davies made an early impression as a lock forward. In no time he found himself playing for West Wales Schools in a pack which included a pair of future Welsh internationals, Paul Ringer and Barry Llewelyn.
Like thousands of boys the country over, Davies played both codes every Saturday: rugby for Amman Valley Grammar School in the morning, football for Ammanford Town in the afternoon. He kept juggling all the balls until one particularly punishing Saturday during sixth-form.
