Wage cuts in Wales could be extended to a year

WALES’ leading players are facing at least a yearlong extension of their 25 per cent wage cuts as the regions fight for survival in the coronavirus crisis. The Professional Rugby Board held a four hour meeting last week to consider proposals from all four regions and the WRU on how to navigate a way through the financial minefield created by Covid-19. The WRU are facing a potential £60m downturn in their annual income of £90m, with the knock-on effect for the Scarlets, Dragons, Ospreys and Cardiff Blues being a huge reduction in their share-outs.
