Jamie George pens new Saracens deal

Saracens RFC

Saracens have today announced that England hooker Jamie George has signed a new long-term deal.

The 25-year old has signed a new multi-year contract with the Premiership Champions, the club with whom he joined in 2008.

The former England U20s captain made his debut against Northampton in November 2009 and went on to make 136 appearances.

Coming through the ranks as Schalk Brits’ understudy, George came to his own last season and played a key role in Sarries’ Premiership winning campaign.

That was rewarded by a called up in England’s squad for the World Cup where he came off the bench against Uruguay in the last match.

He said: “I’ve loved every second I’ve spent at the club over these last six seasons, so I’m delighted to have extended my stay here.

“I really buy into what we are doing here at the club. Saracens have looked after me so well and I’m playing alongside my best mates, which means a huge amount to me.

“It’s such a special environment, and if you couple that with the brilliant coaching staff that we have here, you constantly feel like you are developing as a player and as a person every single day. I’m looking forward to being able to carry on with this incredible journey at Saracens.”

Director of Rugby Mark McCall commented: “One of the big positives over the last few seasons has been the emergence of a lot of our young talent that has been grown in-house, and Jamie has been at the forefront of that.

“We are delighted that he has committed his long-term future with the club and we are all very excited to see Jamie continue to excel for both club and country over the next few years.”

“Jamie served a long apprenticeship coming through the ranks, and his patience is beginning to bear fruit judging by his performances over the last 18 months. It’s great news that he is the latest player to commit his future to the club.”
