How Wattbike helped Tom Youngs and England

With the Rugby World Cup just around the corner, Wattbike, the creators of the world’s most advanced indoor bike, are helping power the squad to success.
Endorsed by England Rugby, the Wattbike is the go-to, power based training tool suitable for all the players, regardless of position and will be playing an important role in keeping the team fit, as well as sustaining and improving performance throughout the World Cup.
As well as testing the teams maximum power output, the  Wattbike has formed a crucial part of the elite England Rugby strength and conditioning training programme, with players using the bike for rehabilitation, recovery and key aerobic and anaerobic training.
England forwards coach, Graham Rowntree, says: “The Wattbike does so much more than any other training tool. Its reliability, consistency and accuracy, in regards to training data, are all extremely specific, which is great for our sport, and position specific training when we need to make comparisons between the team.
“It’s you versus the numbers and you can’t hide. Rugby is all about repeat power outputs and holding that until the last minute of a game, so the Wattbike is great to replicate this off the field.”
Wattbike ambassador and England hooker, Tom Youngs, adds: “The Wattbike has been instrumental in helping me through my rehabilitation and preparation for major events.
“The incredible level of accuracy and measurability means that I can always train in the correct ‘zones’ and assess my progress over a long period of time.
“The bike has really improved my power output, a key factor in rugby, and forms a key piece of training kit in my preparations for this year; in fact the whole team will be using them in the warm ups and recovery sessions pitch-side,” added Youngs.
Whether you’re a Rugby fanatic or more sofa spectator wanting to make the first step, the Wattbike is suitable for everyone, regardless of ability or goal.
Within seconds you can accurately be measuring your power output, your pedalling technique and your heart rate.
