These newish eligibility regulations are still open to opportunists and if not abuse, arguable practice, with the forthcoming World Cup only emphasising that.
Take the former Western Province and Stormers lock Jean Kleyn who, unable to get anywhere near the Boks squad, moved to Munster on a lucrative contract back in 2016 and was rushed into the Ireland squad with indecent haste after three-year residency.
