I was sitting alone in the changing room at Newcastle in tears when I rang my dad and told him I did not know whether I could carry on.
I had suffered another hamstring injury. By that stage, I had torn a hamstring or calf five or six times in the space of a season.
I would work my way back, train once or twice, perhaps play a game, and then something would go again.

The emotional swings were brutal. With a long-term injury, you can at least see the stages in front of you.
