Sale hooker Akker van der Merwe could be set to rejoin one of his former clubs, the Lions.
Van der Merwe, 31, who has won three caps for the Springboks, spent three years with the Lions between 2014 and 2017 before moving on to the Sharks and then Sale in 2019.
The Lions want him to return to Johannesburg and are confident a deal can be reached.
