AS the 2025–26 National League 2 East season approaches, a new generation of stars is poised to light up the competition. Based on confirmed signings, past performances, and rare pedigree at this level, here are five players set to make a huge impact this season.

1. Logan Noble Winger, Oundle RFC

At just 20 years old, Logan Noble is already turning heads across the rugby landscape. The Scotland U20 international made his debut against Wales U20 in December 2024 and followed it up with a storming campaign for Oundle last season.

What sets Noble apart isn’t just his try-scoring — it’s his raw speed. He possesses a level of pace that is unheard of at this level. His blend of youth, elite athleticism, and international experience makes him one of the most exciting talents in National 2 East.

2. Matthew Arden Fly-half, Oundle RFC

Joining Oundle RFC from Nottingham, Matthew Arden adds a dynamic presence at fly-half. Known for his playmaking ability and composure under pressure, Arden brings Championship experience to Oundle’s backline. His vision and kicking accuracy provide a crucial link between the forwards and the exciting outside backs, making him a pivotal figure in Oundle’s attacking strategy. At his best, Arden’s game management and flair can dictate the tempo of a match.

3.Max Bodilly Centre/full-back/wing, London Welsh

One of the biggest signings of the summer, 31-year-old Max Bodilly arrives at London Welsh with a résumé few can match. With 31 Premiership appearances for Exeter Chiefs and a string of standout performances in the Championship for Ealing and Cornish Pirates, Bodilly brings unmatched experience and professionalism to the capital club.

Known for his broken-field running and attacking vision, Bodilly offers versatility across the backline. Whether at centre, full-back or wing, he has the ability to unlock defences with a moment of brilliance — and he still has plenty in the tank.

4. Matt Hema Centre/wing, Bury St Edmunds

Returning to Bury St Edmunds after a highly successful stint with Cambridge in the Championship, Matt Hema is another backline maestro to watch. With 47 tries in 168 appearances, his strike rate is impressive, and his leadership on and off the pitch is well regarded.

Though he lacks Bodilly’s Premiership experience, Hema’s consistency and toughness make him a vital cog in Bury’s ambitions. Comfortable at centre or wing, he blends sharp instincts with a powerful running style.

5. Jac Arthur Back row, Oundle RFC

A powerful, mobile back-row forward with real Championship experience, Jac Arthur brings a new level of grit to Oundle RFC’s pack. With 67 second-tier appearances for Bedford Blues and Ampthill, Arthur is known for his defensive presence, breakdown mastery, lineout ability – and attacking flair which has earned him comparisons to England and Harlequins No.8 Alex Dombrandt.

At 27, he’s in his prime and will be vital in balancing Oundle’s electric backline with hard-nosed forward dominance.
