So back to the future it is as the RFU finally recognises its mistake in setting up a country wide league while not being able to keep the promises made to the clubs when they were sold the idea. The new club league system seems to me very similar to the old local merit tables that were in place before the leagues were formed in 1987. That was when clubs only played against their local rivals which made it easier for players to commit week on week, so hopefully this new system will replicate that.
