Class of ’71 fought back from jet-lagged stumble in their opening game

THELions at least had three whole days from touchdown to the kick-off of their opening match yesterday. Their distinguished predecessors of 1971 didn’t even have that long.
They had to make do with two full days before being rushed off the plane into action, against Queensland in Brisbane. As a reminder that some things never change, the long journey ensured the team fell some way short of the ludicrous notion that they would hit the ground running. It would be more accurate to say they hit it with a jet-lagged stumble.
