Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has shared his delight at the announcement tighthead prop Kieran Brookes has signed a contract extension.
The 28-year-old made the switch to the Ricoh Arena from Northampton Saints last summer and has impressed Young sufficiently to earn a new deal.
Tighthead will be a position of strength for the Premiership club come next season, according to Young, with Hurricanes forward Jeff Toomaga-Allen set to join and the arrival of Biyi Alo from Championship neighbours Coventry.
Young told the club’s official website: “We’re really pleased that Kieran has pledged his future to the club.
“He’s a top-class prop who has a wealth of Premiership and international experience and having a player of his stature commit to the club is great news for all involved.
“We’ve got fantastic options in the tighthead area next season, with the experience of Brookesy and Jeff Toomaga-Allen, while we’ve got three up-and-coming players who will really benefit from working alongside these talented individuals.”
An England international with 16 caps to his name, Brookes’ early career began at Fylde before moving to Newcastle Falcons.
And after sustaining an ankle injury in action against Bath in December, the versatile front-row forward was keen to get back at it in what’s been a season of struggles for the Coventry-based club.
Brookes added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Wasps since making the move in the summer and there are some fantastic people around the club.
“It’s been a bit frustrating with injuries for me but I can’t wait to get back on the field and help us try and push on back up the Premiership table to compete with the best.”
