AUSTRALIA prevailed in the fifth-place semi-final despite going down to 14- men after 20 minutes.
Lock Michael Wood was sent off for a kick to the head, but the Junior Wallabies regrouped and commanded the second half to set up a fifth place play-off with Argentina.
A stunning solo try from Italy winger Giovanni D’Onofrio opened the scoring but Harrison Hockings’ close-range try provided Australia with an instant response to make it 5-5.
