Aberavon can’t stop Quins’ run

CARMARTHEN Quins made it four straight wins in Super Rygbi Cymru with a 28-19 bonus-point triumph over Aberavon.

The win also took the Quins up from fourth to second in the table and two points behind Ebbw Vale, albeit having played two more games.

This was also the west Walians’ sixth win from eight so far this term – which already matches their total win tally of six from 18 regular matches last season.

The Quins hit the front 12 minutes in through a try from ex-Wales winger Steff Evans. They led 21-7at the break with wing Tom Williams and prop Rhys Fawcett also scoring in the first half. Elis Price converted all three and also added the extras to hooker Isaac Young’s try in the second half.

Frankie Jones, Tomi Booth and Caelan Carson-Jones were the Aberavon try scorers. Charlie Thomas and Booth added conversions.

In the only other SRC game played yesterday, RGC ended their five-game losing streak with a Billy McBryde inspired 54-26 basement battle victory at Bridgend.

This win, only their second of the campaign so far, lifted the Gogs off the bottom and up three places to seventh, as they headed back north with a maximum six-point haul.

Outside-half McBryde was once again at his influential best, scoring a try, as well as converting all six RGC tries, and sending over four penalties for a 29-point personal haul.

This fourth straight defeat for the Ravens leaves them rooted to the bottom of the table, although they did at least take a bonus point secured with a couple of late tries.

Wing Caio Parry, centre Delwyn Jones, hooker Jac Petch-Jones, back row Celt Ffransis-Roberts and second row James Brown were RGC’s other try scorers at the Brewery Field.

Lloyd Wilkins, Mccauley Rowley, Rhydian Greenhall and Chris Williams scored for the Ravens. Fraser Jones kicked two conversions and Wilkins one.
