Six Nations casualties would put on quite a match

The one certainty about the Six Nations is that not all those who came under starter’s orders this weekend will be in one piece when it finishes.
The painful nature of rugby’s annual steeplechase is such that a whole host of runners pulled up lame before the off.
The pre-tournament casualties added up to not one complete XV but two, leaving all and sundry to curse the hazardous nature of their occupation.
They had all bust more than a gut in recent weeks bar one, Ireland’s No. 2 tighthead Tom O’Toole, serving a six-week ban for his red card against Munster.
