TWO SIDES at the wrong end of the table went head-to-head for a first win of the year, with Sedgley Park the eventual successors.

The Tigers started with two tries in the opening ten minutes. First, John Blanchard went over on the blind side of the ruck before, shortly afterwards, Bob Birtwell picked the ball up from a metre out and dotted down with ease.

Ollie Glasse added only one conversion but extended the lead when he added three from in front of the posts.

The visitors refused to lay down, shown when Alex Ashton gathered himself finely to finish off a well-calculated passing move, with Jai Johal adding the extras.

Then, just as half-time beckoned, Johal set up Jack Biard on the right-hand side, who placed the ball neatly Toby W next to the posts to guarantee the extra two – this time from Chris Bolton – for a 15-14 score at the break.

Glasse added an extra three points, in the second half, but it wasn’t until the last ten minutes where the Tigers secured it.

A toe-poke and kick by Joe Bedlow set Rhys Henderson through, and his score was followed up by Will Bennett’s run which released Lewis Bradley to seal the bonus point.
