Leeds Tykes ……….27
Clifton ………………….24
LEEDS Tykes ground out a narrow victory to kickstart their campaign and drag themselves off the bottom of the National League 1 against Clifton.
Barely a minute was on the clock when Lu-cas Walsh raced in for the opening score, in the left centre channel. The try was expertly converted by Eddie Crossland, who didn’t miss a kick all day.
Twenty minutes then passed, with neither side able to assert their authority on proceedings, until a stolen line-out created the position for a converted Tom Hargan try to level the game.
Both sides went in to the break feeling they could get the win but, as with the first-half, Leeds started strongly.
After 42 minutes, Will Yates found space out wide to edge Leeds in front; Crossland again added the extras.
Clifton scored from the restart, as Leeds failed to exit when two players collided. Ollie Harris was the beneficiary of the converted try to level.
Two Crossland penalties kept the scoreboard ticking over but betwixt was a George Perry score, from a rolling maul, to edge Clifton in front. Eddie Crossland’s penalty narrowed Leeds ahead, before Sebastian Krippner looked to have sealed the win from inside his own half with a converted try.
Ricardo then Cano scored the final try, as Clifton salvaged the two points in defeat.
