Blackheath …………33 Bishop’s S …………… 31
ED Dunford won’t mark this down as one of his better goal-kicking days, with four out of five missed conversions, but the Club full-back emerged the hero, as he nailed the penalty with the final kick.
Blackheath had most of the pressure, numerous chances, and all of Stortford’s four tries came via Club’s errors.
The first came after two minutes when the kick-off was fumbled giving away field position for visiting Tristan Smith to drive over.
Jake Hennessey, Billy Harding and Oscar Daniel all crossed for the hosts, the latter recipient of a long pass before showing a neat side-step but, with Blackheath temporarily reduced in number, Stortford created the extra space for Finn Keylock to score.
Harding added his second after the break, and Blackheath’s set-piece dominated, but an interception try for Tom Mills, and a penalty from Chris Bolton – whose kicking was perfect – nudged Stortford ahead.
Harding completed his hat-trick and Dunford added three points, but Stortford worked Harrison Langworthy over for a try and one-point advantage with two minutes to play.
However, the Club pack drove forward off a lineout to force an infringement and Dunford duly obliged.
