Richmond…………….38
Bishop’s S……………. 21
Richmond old boy Tom Mills tested his old club’s nerves with two tries in the first quarter for Bishop’s Stortford.
Mills pursued a kick though for his first and provided a neat chip and chase for the second, both converted by Mike Cooke. However, Richmond steadily took control, helped by dominating the line-outs, and Alex Schwarz leading the way with a solo try in the 29th minute to cut the deficit to seven.
In the second half, Richmond dominated, despite a period playing with 13 men. Within ten minutes, Richmond had the lead, courtesy of a fine try by 50-cap Miles Wakeling, who supported a Greg Kit-son break, before Lewis Dennett intercepted to run 65 metres for a breakaway try
Tololima Savaiinaea bulldozed his way over for the bonus-point try before two yellow cards in quick succession gave Stortford a glimmer. Ollie Jones scored a try under the posts to cut the lead to seven points, but the Richmond defence held out well before the dependable Callum Grieve added a penalty to keep his side two scores ahead.
Back to 15 men, Richmond added one more try when Savaiinaea again hammered his way over from close range.
