Redruth………………..34
Macclesfield………. 19
REDRUTH and Macclesfield went into this clash looking to bounce back from defeats in the previous round.
Despite an inspired performance from Harry Oliver at inside center, the visitors were forced to take the long journey back from Cornwall empty-handed, after succumbing to loss which leaves them just one place from the bottom.
The away side actually started brightly, with full-back Daniel Leake stunning Redruth with a score just moments into the game, converted by the impressive Oliver. The hosts soon hit back with a penalty from the boot of Dean Mills, before Oliver burst over for a try which he converted.
The Redruth forward pack gradually began to assert their dominance which was soon rewarded when abrasive hooker Matthew Pritchard powered over.
Try as they might, Macclesfield couldn’t break the ferocious Redruth defence for large periods of the game.
The hosts added further scores via Chris Mills and Tommy Phillips, before Pritchard secured the bonus point with his second. Oliver took his points tally to 14, but his late score couldn’t inspire a comeback for the visitors, who had no answer to the Redruth pack.
