ENGLAND under-20 inter national Kane James put in a try-scoring man-of-the match show as Exeter finished the season in style.
With little to play for, both sides threw caution to the wind in an end-to-end clash.
Exeter started stronger, and showed some quality from kick-off to pin Chester back in their 22, before a break from a short line-out move saw winger Kofi Barton-Byfield go over.
They doubled their lead within three minutes, outside centre Charlie McCaig intercepting from deep to canter over.
Inside centre Frankie Jefferies scored Exeter's third from another line-out driving maul, before Chester No.8 George Baxter was sinbinned for a ruck foul.
The visitors utilised their forwards and a strong breeze to dominant the third quarter, and blindside Kyle Joseph sneaked over from a driving maul.
Harry Craven finished a solo effort before the final ten minutes became a try-fest.
Wing Thomas Burton intercepted to nab Exeter's bonus point try, before Chester's Tommy Scott scored. Exeter Chiefs' rising star James muscled over after the visitors gave away possession, and hooker Ellis Baldry scored in the final play.
