Clifton returned to Bristol with five points, but not before Newport had given them a scare.
Ricardo Cano gave Clifton the early lead after eight minutes, the try converted by Luke Cozens. Newport then hit back on the quarter hour, Charlie Gamble the scorer. George Castledine added the extras.
Clifton then scored two tries within two minutes via Zak Hamid and Bertie Stretch.
