HULL slipped to defeat in a game they could have won, having three clear line breaks to two from Preston in conditions that made open rugby very difficult.
Hull almost scored after a break by Tim Minns which couldn’t be finished, and they went close again when a cross-field kick by Reece Dean was dropped in the tackle with the tryline begging.
After 20 minutes Greg Smith missed a penalty, but made no mistake two minutes later to give Hoppers the lead.
