Otley in charge as they power home

…………………22 ……………………. 24

The game turned largely on three Otley charge downs worth 14 points to the visitors.

Nevertheless, over the whole 80 minutes it was the power of the Otley pack that made the biggest impression.

Against the run of play, Otley took a 5-0 lead when Brett Malthouse dropped on the ball following a charged down clearance. However, Chester returned to the attack for No.8 Luke Cox to charge from a five-metre scrum. Shortly after Chester recovered the ball despite a lineout spill and the Otley pack froze, allowing flanker Sam Brearey to add a second try.

Leading by nine points at the break, the question was whether Chester's lead was enough to face the Otley pack and the blustery wind. The home side found it increasingly difficult to get field position, as the visitor's scrum gained control.

With the introduction of Blake Morgan and Callum Irvine, Otley's backs found a penetration missing in the first half. Morgan scored two tries following well-timed passes from Irvine then another charge down try from Eddie Crossland gave Otley a clear lead. Chester scored when winger Harrison Vare weaved 50m through the defence, but that was the final score.
