WHAT a crazy game this was in the Birmingham sunshine.
The Fylde pack hardly ventured into the Bourns half but they scored seven longrange first-half tries through Bournville errors and were ruthless in their execution.
Four converted tries were scored inside the first 13 minutes followed by three in the second quarter. Centre Tom Carlton scored a hat-trick and there was a brace a piece for centre Forster and the live wire scrum-half Sturgess. Stand-off Greg Smith added six conversions for a half-time lead of 47-0 to the visitors.
The second half was a different affair as it was Bournville who dominated possession and had the visitors pinned in their 22. Eliminating the errors of the first half and playing controlled rugby, they
hauled their way back into the game scoring five tries. Lock Harry Dawson pounced first from close range. On 58 minutes, Fylde stand off Smith saw yellow for a dangerous tackle and Bourns played the numbers game stretching the defence for Owen Williams to score. Further tries by Drake-Lee, McGahan and Rudge took the Bourns total to 33 aided by four conversions from McGahan but it wasn’t enough.
