IT WAS another disappointing day at Solstice Park for the Lions who lost convincingly to highflying Huddersfield in a very one-sided affair.
Lions started brightly but Will Milner’s penalty put the visitors in front. When Lions hooker Jack Askham infringed and was yellow-carded, the resulting scrum saw Huddersfield work the ball to the right hand side and winger Arthur Wilkinson raced over.
The Lions then managed to exert some pressure and from a driving lineout, hooker Jack Lewis scored for Ben Young to convert, making the score 10-7.
That proved to be the catalyst for a Huddersfield blitz in which they scored two converted tries in three minutes, the first a solo effort by Wilkinson and the second by the other winger Elliot Knight. More good work by the Lions forwards resulted in centre Suva Ma’asi going over.
However, this was as close as it got as Huddersfield turned the screw early in the second half with three more tries scored by prop Harry Whitfield, centre James Davies and loose head prop Adam Blades.
The game ended with what looked like a nasty injury to Huddersfield’s number nine Jack Maplesden, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
