SAM Sterling's double helped inspire Canterbury to a six-try win over Guernsey Raiders to maintain their position in second in the National 2 South table.

A crowd of almost 500 watched on in the southeast as Cant took control early through fly-half Harvey Young's score on nine minutes, the first of many Guernsey conceded.

The stand-off converted his own score but Guernsey rallied and found themselves ahead through a stunning double for fullback Anthony Armstrong – Owen Thomas unfortunately unable to convert both.

From then on though it was one-way traffic, as wing Ricky Mackintosh stole in before Sterling got his first and Jonathan Murray bagged the bonuspoint score a little over half an hour in.

No.15 Aiden Moss joined the party before half-time, with a 31-10 lead now built and the game gone for Guernsey, who nevertheless continued to fight.

Sterling made sure though with his second on 55 minutes, the final nail in the coffin, which Young converted for a 38-10 lead.

Raiders replacement Matthew Creber pulled back a consolation, but Thomas once again missed the conversion on a miserable afternoon from the tee.

The result means a 20th defeat of the season for Raiders, who are four points behind Wild Geese and ten behind Birmingham & Solihull Bees at the bottom.
