Bishop’s St 53
Wild Geese 3
BISHOP’S Stortford breezed to victory as they racked up nine tries against London Irish Wild Geese.
Their first scores came in the eighth and 15th minutes through Jon George and Steve Ball, after quick hands had moved the ball wide from breakdowns. Will Simmonds touched down after a quick tapped penalty in the 21st minute as the hosts soon pulled clear. In response Ollie Turner kicked three points for Wild Geese after a breakdown offence in front of the posts.
Stortford’s bonus-point try was registered after 24 minutes by Matt Tomlinson.
The first-half scoring was rounded off on 32 minutes with George’s second try from a smart inside pass by Jimmy Rea as the home side took complete control.
Stortford added two more quick tries early in the second period, with replacement scrum-half Sam Coleman going over from the base of a fivemetre scrum and winger Nick Hankin also crossing.
The visitors day went from bad when lock Andrew Evans was sent off for stampin.
And the home side finished stronger with Simmonds and Hankin both crossing in the last five minutes to seal a convincing win for the hosts, who stay top of the table.
