Smith hat-trick stops Cardiff’s away run

Flanker Ben Smith scored a hat-trick as Loughborough University beat Cardiff 31-10 to return to the top of BUCS Super Rugby.
Cardiff were unbeaten on the road heading into the game and took the lead through Rhydian Williams’ try but Bryn Davies hit back and an unanswered treble from Smith sealed the bonus point victory.
Smith said: “I don’t get on the scoresheet often, so grabbing a hat-trick felt good. I took the skipper Teddy’s (Leatherbarrow) advice and didn’t give the ball to the back of the maul to the hooker and instead decided to have a go myself.
