Curwin Bosch scored 14 points as the Sharks dug deep to see off Bordeaux Begles to make it two wins from two after their victory over Harlequins in Durban last weekend.
An intriguing first half saw the hosts take a 13-9 lead into the break after a Werner Kok yellow card opened the door for Bordeaux.
Kok, always an energetic presence, was overzealous when he suplexed a Bordeaux player at the breakdown and was lucky to only get 10 minutes.
